Discussion for Swedecham HK Position Paper on Plastic Waste
The Swedish Chamber of Commerce’s Sustainability Committee invited V Cycle to be a part of the "Round-table: Mapping solutions to plastic waste & recycling" discussion on 24 May 2018.
The discussion was centred on how we can improve single-use plastic waste and how Hong Kong can become cleaner and greener in the future. The round-table talks were held by SwedCham and each invited party participated in suggestions on how to educate the public to be more environmentally conscious and how to make Hong Kong waste free.
V Cycle participated in the discussion by providing information and statistics on the environmental impact that PET (polyethene terephthalate) bottles have in Hong Kong. We also shared V Cycle’s mission statement which aims to collect and recycle used PET plastic bottles into rPET textiles, such as fashionable reusable tote bags. V Cycle employs waste pickers in Hong Kong to help with the project, as we want to provide them with a larger source of income, as well as educate the public on their heartbreaking situation (many waste pickers work long, tiring hours for little pay) in our city and their massive contribution to recycling in Hong Kong.
