Hansk uses permethrin in Vital Protection and its main HanskMB Anti-Insect formulation. Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide that provides repellent and insecticidal effects. The formulation is selected according to the material and intended application.

Permethrin acts on insects’ nervous systems following exposure to treated surfaces.
Vital Protection is applied during textile finishing. HanskMB incorporates the active ingredient into the polymer during manufacturing, allowing controlled migration from within the material to replenish activity at the surface.

Vital Protection offers wash-durable performance, with 25-, 50- or 70-wash claims available depending on the treatment and finished product. The applicable wash-cycle rating and care instructions must be confirmed for each product.

HanskMB provides multi-wash durability by incorporating the active ingredient within the polymer, which replenishes the surface after depletion. Wash-cycle performance depends on the formulation, material and cleaning conditions and is established through application-specific testing.

HanskMB is designed for weather-resistant applications, with the active ingredient incorporated within the polymer. Vital Protection can also be used on outdoor textiles. Resistance to repeated rainfall and weather exposure depends on the finished material and should be confirmed through relevant testing.

HanskMB uses controlled migration to replenish surface activity after depletion through washing or contact. However, this does not mean the material is abrasion-proof or that no transfer can occur. Resistance to repeated handling and rubbing is assessed for each application.

Durability depends on the technology, material, washing frequency, wear and environmental exposure. Product-specific wash and durability results provide the basis for performance claims and care recommendations.
Pyrethrins are naturally-occurring compounds with insecticidal properties that are found in pyrethrum extract from certain chrysanthemum flowers. The active ingredient used by Hansk is mainly permethrin, an organic compound similar to the natural pyrethrins.
The U.S. military has been using permethrin on their uniforms for more than 30 years. Permethrin is now commonly used as an active ingredient in insect repellent clothing. Permethrin is a contact insecticide, but Hansk is able to significantly enhance its repellency, therefore articles treated with Hansk products can both knock-down and repel insects.
